The Fall 2015 issue of the AFS Janus magazine is now available online! In honor of the AFS Centennial and the significant contributions made by AFS during World War I, we highlight volunteer David Hugh Annan in this issue. The story was compiled with the help of his children, in addition to his vivid wartime diary housed in the AFS Archives. Annan’s story is symbolic of the AFS spirit that still holds true today- the desire to help others and experience the world outside your country’s borders.
This issue also includes articles by Inge Rauschning (Hoppe), who recounts her impressive sixty-five year AFS story, and Frances Wilson, who uses her grandfather’s unpublished memoir to recount his fascinating story of evacuating the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945, and the impact AFS had on both of their lives.
