Foundations of Intercultural Learning and Global Competence

What is it?

This course is the new introductory level of the AFS Intercultural Link Learning Program — AFS’s training and assessment program to increase our intercultural and global competence as volunteers and staff. Foundations is the new and enhanced ‘Level W.’

In this course, learners will go over:

How AFS creates impact
Tools to understand differences and suspend judgment
How to be more inclusive within and outside of AFS
Active Global Citizenship
and more!

Who should take this course?

This course was designed for all staff members and volunteers.

Available Languages

Foundations is available in English, Spanish, Japanese, French and Arabic (videos are recorded with English audio and feature subtitles in those languages).

Why should I take it?

You’ll meet AFS volunteers and staff from around the globe
You’ll increase your intercultural awareness and global competence which will make you more effective in your role within AFS
It’s self-paced but there are also live sessions where you’ll meet your fellow cohort members
It’s engaging and fun

I took the original “Level W”, should I take this one?

We encourage you to do it because:

There is new and improved content (Understanding Inequality, Active Global Citizenship, etc.)
There are new tasks and activities
It will be a great refresher
There are forum reflections, 2D animation videos, quizzes, activities and more.
